She was a sports reporter for some of the largest outlets in the nation. She spent almost a decade writing about various sports on behalf of The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. Nichols began a nine year period at ESPN where she was awarded the two Emmy Awards, and featured on many of ESPN's top programs, including NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. In her role as a reporter at the sidelines as well as a participant on Monday Night Football. After leaving ESPN, her next destination was CNN and Turner Sports. Unguarded With Rachel Nichols was the first show she produced and hosted. It was aired on CNN International and CNN. A billion viewers viewed the show across the globe. Nichols covered NBA shows on TNT which included the regular season, playoffs as well as All-Star broadcasts. Apart from reporting for TBS and TNT, she also reported on baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. It was the only time in the award's 42-year-old history that a woman was nominated amongst the more than 200 nominees.
